EuroNanoMed III: funding to convert research in nanotechnology into practical gains in medicine

November 14 2016

Today, EuroNanoMed launched the 8th Joint Transnational Call for funding multilateral innovative research projects on nanomedicine. Based on the success of previous initiatives, they have decided to continue supporting the European Nanomedicine research community. This initiative provides ample opportunities to further exploit your nanotechnology; but what is exactly in there for you?

Nanomedicine is the application of nanotechnology to medicine and healthcare. The field takes advantage of the physical, chemical and biological properties of materials at the nanometer scale to be used for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of diseases. Given the immense potential impact of nanomedicine on public wellbeing and on economic growth, the field is of considerable strategic importance to Europe.

To foster the competitiveness of European nanomedicine actors, the ERA-NET Cofund mechanism was established in 2008 together with the European Commission. This program serves as a platform for funding agencies and ministries to coordinate research programmes with the goal of creating and funding collaborative research projects that can convert research in nanotechnology into practical gains in medicine. EuroNanoMed aims (i) to support translational research projects that combine innovative approaches in the field of nanomedicine and; (ii) to encourage and enable transnational collaboration between public and private research groups from academia, clinical/public health research or research teams from industrial enterprises.

EuroNanoMed III

EuroNanomed III is the new Framework programme that will run from November 2016 to October 2020. Project proposals can be submitted from 14th November 2016 until 16th January 2017 and need to cover at least one of the following areas: regenerative medicine, diagnostics and/or targeted delivery systems. The projects should fall within Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3-6. A consortium applying to this call will be required to include research group(s) from at least 2 of the 3 following categories:

  •  Academia;
  • Clinical/public health sector. Participation of Medical Doctors is encouraged;
  • Enterprises. Participation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will be encouraged.

Only transnational projects will be funded. Each consortium submitting a proposal will need to involve a minimum of 3 eligible and a maximum of 5 eligible partners from at least 3 different countries participating to the call though no more than 2 eligible partners from the same country participating in the call will be accepted in one consortium.

The following dates are applicable for the current call from EuroNanoMed III:

  • Launch: 14th November 2016
  • Submission deadline for pre-proposals: 16th January 2017
  • Submission deadline for full proposals: 9th June 2017
  • Available budget for this call: 14 M€ (approx.)
