About the NWO HTSM programme

The HTSM programme is an yearly initiative of NWO (The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research) and it’s aimed at fostering excellent science within the Topsector High Tech Systems and Materials.

About the HTSM 2017 Open Call

The HTSM 2017 Open Call aims to encourage excellent fundamental and application-oriented research in the area of high-tech systems and materials in the Netherlands, in order to strengthen the Netherlands' competitive position in this area internationally. The collaboration between knowledge institutions and industry is an important factor in this.

Proposals for the HTSM 2017 call are expected to contribute to at least one of the 16 roadmaps of the Topsector or the cross-sectoral area ICT. You can find more information about these roadmaps at the Holland High Tech website. There is a two-stage application process for this call. Deadline for submission of pre-proposals is April 11th 2017, at 14:00 CET. Full proposals are due May 30th 2017.

Who can apply for the HTSM grant?

Researchers with a tenure track appointment. Assistant, associate and full professors with a tenured position at:

  • Dutch universities (or with comparable positions at the university medical centres)
  • KNAW and NWO-institutes
  • the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI)
  • the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen
  • Dubble beamline at the ESFR in Grenoble
  • NCB Naturalis
  • Advanced Research Centre for NanoLithography (ARCNL)

What to apply for?

Total budget available in this call is €5,6 million, funded by NWO-domain TTW  (€3,4 million) and the TKI-HTSM (€2,2 million), for an intended 7-9 projects. TTW's contribution to a product is maximally €750.000, and co-financing should at least be 30% and at most 50% (of which at least 15% financial). The overall duration of the research plan may not exceed six years.
